Why Lavender Fields?
Lavender Fields Forever...
What made me choose these words as my business name? It’s interesting isn't it how some things develop significance in one's life. I can remember the day I decided lavender (or mauve, or violet, or purple) was my favourite colour. I was five years old and my Grandmother had taken me to a fabric shop (for those born in the 80s onwards these are probably a strange concept - but yes, once lots of us made our own clothes) to choose some fabric for a dress for my favourite doll. I had no hesitance in picking a beautifully subtle piece of lavender coloured silk - I can still remember it’s shimmer and silky feel. And the left over material was made into lavender bags for my clothes drawers - bliss.
Many years later when decorating my first home (as it’s new owner following my divorce) I once again had no hesitancy in choosing violet and silver for my bedroom and lavender for my kitchen walls. My new garden too, was planted up with different varieties of aromatic lavender plants. This was another link back to my past remembering my Grandfather's walled garden full of lavender and Grandma's sheets smelling of lavender water. So lavender, for me has become a symbol of peace, tranquility, sacredness, transformation, cosy memories and modern decor.
So what is it about lavender?
As an essential oil it is very versatile being a relaxant if used in moderation, but a stimulant if over used. It can soothe pain, heal cuts and burns, refresh and uplift our mind and is romantic and spiritual. In flower psychometry lavender flower spires represent the need to formulate and follow a plan of action; to focus on a goal and work towards it step by step. In doing so their healing energies will promote stamina, awareness, transformation and the integrity needed to achieve ones goals giving one a sense of purpose. Lavender draws wisdom out of experience to apply to life situations. It is also linked astrologically to the sign of Gemini which is, of course, my own sun sign - do I detect synchronicity at work here?
It is entirely appropriate, therefore, that I chose Lavender as a representation of what I aim to do for you: transform your life from turmoil to tranquillity. And anyway, I just love everything about lavender, so why not?
